The St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames will both be looking for a huge win tonight at the Saddledome as St. Louis is 6 points behind the Flames for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. With a win tonight Calgary can continue its ascent up the standings and will move into a more favourable playoff spot and avoid a potential first round matchup with the Vancouver Canucks. Miikka Kiprusoff will start in goal for the Flames and backup Ben Bishop will start for the Blues.

If the St. Louis Blues can string together some key victories down the stretch they could very well move back into a playoff position and live up to the potential they had coming into the season after acquiring Jarsoalv Halak from the Canadiens. St. Louis started the year with the best record in the NHL but have since played subpar hockey and find themselves running the risk of missing the postseason entirely. The Blues have made some moves at the trade dwadline that have made them a stronger team offensively as they acquired Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk from the Avalanche for Erik Johnson which appears to have been a great move for both clubs thus far. St. Louis is hoping that they can sneak back into the postseason picture with some more key acquisitions before tomorrow's deadline.

The Calgary Flames have been rumored to be moving some key pieces of their roster all season long but with a recent surge in the last little while the Flames could become buyers instead of sellers at the trade deadline. If Calgary can acquire a top 6 forward to pair up with their top line of Jarome Iginla, Brendan Morrison, and Olli Jokinen and help out Rene Bourque with some secondary scoring they could make a push deep into the West playoffs. Miikka Kiprusoff has enjoyed another strong season and will be a crucial part of the Flames success down the stretch.

With both of these teams in the thick of thigns int he Western playoff picture it will be a tight game as desparation levels will be at an all time high. When comparing both of these teams however I think the Flames are a stronger team and with their home record against the Blues' dreadful road record and the fact they're starting their backup I have to give the nod to the Flames.
